Huawei Mate 40

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design

We will await more confirmation on this matter.

Hardware and specs:

Huawei Mate 40Huawei's Kirin chips 9000, 6/8 GB RAM?

Huawei Mate 40 ProHuawei's Kirin chips 9000, 8/12 GB RAM?

It has been claimed that the Huawei Mate 40 and  Mate 40 Pro will be the last devices to use Huawei's home guard Kirin chipset.

With the US trade embargo in place, Huawei's Kirin chips that cannot manufacture their top smartphones after 15 September 2020.

The Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro will use pre-stock-chip chips according to the company.

These new devices are rumored to come with a 5nm chip. That chip has not been announced, but the Huawei's Kirin chips 9000 is expected. Huawei is estimated to have about 8 million chips available.

Memory expects that the Huawei Mate 40 up to 8 GB of RAM at least and the Mate 40 Pro to be the same, as well as another higher option - perhaps 12 GB.

Display:

In 2019, Huawei unveiled its Huawei Mate 30 pro series, which includes a new Horizon display featuring an 88-degree curved edge OLED display and virtual side key controls.

This design was completely new and appreciated by consumers, but it is not so user friendly. However, a CAD render of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro suggests that Huawei is likely to further enhance the display edge curve in the back of the device.

Unlike the Huawei Mate 30 Pro Series, the Huawei Mate 40 Series will come with a punch-hole display to home the front camera setup.

As per rumors, the Huawei Mate 40 will have a 6.4-inch display - which is slightly smaller than the Mate 30.

However, a 6.67-inch display has also been talked about, which is said to be curved with a 90Hz refresh rate

The resolutions are not mentioned, but the Huawei Mate 30 has a Full HD + resolution with HDR10 support so we would at least expect that for the Huawei Mate 40.

The Mate 40 Pro, meanwhile, is said to have a 6.7-inch display - which is slightly larger than the Huawei mate 30 pro

Full HD + resolution is expected at least on the Mate 40 Pro, such as the Huawei mate 30 pro offer. It is said that the Mate 40 Pro will feature a waterfall display and also provide a 90Hz refresh rate.

According to the TENAA listing, the Huawei Mate 40 (Standard) has a 6.5-inch display

While a leak suggests that the Huawei Mate 40 Pro will have a 6.7-inch (6.78-inch) 2K resolution display.

Interestingly, both the Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro will have a curved edge display.

In addition, these devices will be enabled with a 90Hz screen refresh rate for smooth animation and UI effects.

Processor:

In conjunction with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro Series, Huawei created a new 7nm + process with an inbuilt 5G modem and Huawei's Kirin chips 990 Series chipset with NSA / SA dual-mode 5G support.

In the Huawei Mate 40 series, Huawei will introduce a new 5nm Huawei's Kirin 9000 chipset with improved performance.

According to Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei CBG, the Huawei's Kirin chips 9000 will be the most powerful Huawei's Kirin chipset ever, with new 5G technology, AI processing, powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU), and GPU performance.

Camera:

The Huawei Mate 40 Series may feature camera technologies from the P40 series such as improved RYYB color mapping with the new Ultra Vision camera, a 10x optical zoom periscope camera. Camera setup can be as follows:

Huawei Mate 40 - Triple Camera

Huawei Mate 40 Pro-Quad Camera (combined Periscope Telephoto Camera)

Huawei Mate 40 Pro + / Mate Rs 40 - Penta Camera (combined Periscope Telephoto Camera)

It is yet to be confirmed whether the Huawei Mate 40RS will have the same specs as the Tech Mate 40 Pro + or will be slightly different.

On the front side, the Huawei Mate 40 Series will feature a hole-punch cutout design with two selfie cameras on the Pro version and singles on the non-Pro.

It is likely that the cameras will be the main focus of the Mate 40 series, especially in the case of Mate 40 Pro models.

It has been claimed that the Huawei Mate 40 may have a free lens - which you can read more about here - but we suspect that if it does, it is reserved for the Huawei Mate 40 or Mate 40 Pro + Will be if one.

According to reports, the Huawei Mate 40 will feature a 50-megapixel sensor, a 20-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor, and a triple rear camera made of laser autofocus

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro, meanwhile, is reported to have a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor with liquid lens technology, a periscope, and an 80-megapixel cine sensor with flight sensor timing. However, none of these specifications has been confirmed.

We would expect Leica optics and whatever the makeup is, we would expect both to be very good given Huawei's recent skills in this area.

EMUI:

Every year, Huawei Mate-series devices debut with the new version of EMUI, this year will be no different. The Huawei Mate 40 series will launch with EMUI 11 supported by Huawei Mobile Services (HMS).

Battery:

The battery is an important aspect of Huawei flagship phones, and the company may be eventually moved to the 5000mAh battery in the top model.

The TENAA listing suggests that the Standard Huawei Mate 40 will have a 4000mAh battery. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is equipped with a 4500mAh battery.

In addition, Huawei has been using 40W Supercharge for quite some time and it is time that the company planned to shift to 65Watt flash charging.

Design:

Huawei Mate 40: 158.6 x 72.5 x 8.9mm, or 10.4 mm combined the camera bump

Huawei Mate 40 Pro: 162.8 x 75.5 x 9mm or 10.4 mm combined with the camera bump

Based on the rumors, the Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro will have a very crystal clear rear camera more so than the Huawei Mate 30 Pro Series did.

It suggests both will be circular with the Mate 40 pro featuring a quad camera and the Huawei Mate 40 featuring a triple camera.

They reveal Huawei's circular camera housing, with a rectangular opening for the periscope/telephoto camera at the top, a tablet-shaped LED flash, and three separate holes in an arc for the rear cameras. This is definitely a unique design, isn't it?

It appears that the Huawei Mate 40 may have a curved-edge display with a dual punch-hole camera on the left - similar to the Galaxy S10 +.

Meanwhile, the Mate 40 Pro may have a waterfall display similar to the Huawei Mate 30 Pro with dual punch-hole cameras instead of the knots are seen on the 2019 device.

In terms of IP rating - the Huawei Mate 30 Pro has a higher IP rating than the Huawei Mate 30, so it wouldn't be surprising to see it equally for the Huawei Mate 40 series. Both devices are expected to have an aluminum frame with a glass back.

The Mate 40 Series will feature glass and glass stick back finishes and the company may also include a ceramic version in this smartphone lineup.

Huawei Mate 40 Series Launch Date:

The Huawei Mate 40 series will launch on October 22, 2020, at the following times:

2:00 pm (Germany)

1:00 PM (U.K)

8:00 PM (China)

4:00 PM (UAE)

What is the price of the Huawei Mate 40 and Huawei Mate 40 Pro?

Huawei Mate 40 Series will have a model of between 1000 Euro and it will increase based on specs and variants.

Software:

No Google Apps or Services
Huawei will have its own AppGallery App Store

Huawei Mate 40 and Huawei Mate 40 Pro will likely not offer Google apps and services, such as Huawei Mate 30Huawei Mate 30 Pro Series, P40, P40 Pro, and not P40 Pro. This is due to the former US trade ban.
